One of my magical specialisms is Sea Witchery. I come from a line of hereditary sea witches dating back to at least the 1500’s in the U.K. My practice is closed in that it is taught only to those within my family, and sometimes those who sailed with them. One of my first memories is of being taught to call the wind by one of my elders. As you can imagine, this was a very important spell for those who were sailing. Much of sea witchery as a practice centres around the use of shells, sand, and sea plants. If it’s near the beach, we use it. We use shells for divination (not cowrie casting, that’s from another closed practice) and we also use weather magic. Both were used by the sailors themselves, and by their loved ones (or witches) on land awaiting their safe return.
As with the Green House blog, we will be using this one to explain the magical properties of a beach/sea object.
